Visit Mountjuïc Mountain in a car with driver
Its location, near the port and dominating the city was ideal as a defensive site.
At the present time, this is a large area with gardens, museums and sport facilities.
The International Expo of 1929 initiated the urbanization of the mountain with avenues, green areas and museums.
The 92 Olympics consolidated the Anella Olímpica for sports and major public events.
At the top we find the Castle of Montjuïc, built in the XVII century, which accommodates the Military Museum. Opened in 1963 it has an interesting collection of armours and uniforms.
The view overlooking Barcelona from the fortress is excellent.
The Miró Foundation, a building of great interest and one of the most visited museums, offers an exceptional collection of art.
In close proximity we find the Anella Olímpica, with the most important sport structures of the 1992 events, such as the Estadi Olímpic built in 1929 and whose interior was totally renovated for the Olympiads, allowing larger capacity for spectators and mantaining the original and interesting neoclassical facade.
In the opposed side of the monumental square, the Palau Sant Jordi is situated. Designed by Arata Isozaki, it is a masterpiece of modern design and contemporary engineering, ideal for indoor sports, concerts and other events.
All this area offers an idea of how important the Olympics were for Barcelona.
Further down we find the Poble Espanyol, built in 1929 to show visitors the different architectural styles of Spain. In this area you can enjoy walking through a typical street of Andalucía, appreciate Castillan architecture or discover what Catalunya and other Spanish regions can offer.
The impressive Palau Nacional, built for 1929 Exhibition of, is the home of the MNAC Museu National d´Art de Catalunya, offering an extraordinary collection of Romanesque and Gothic art.
Just below is located the Magic Fountain, a beautiful combination of water, music, light and colours. This fountain, designed by Carles Buhigas was built for the International Exhibition and offers a fascinating show of light and water which captivates.
The Plaça Espanya square, with its beautiful fountain, the old Bull Ring and its two Venetian towers is the entrance to the spectacular Avenue of Mª Cristina, where the Trade Fair is located.
When the laterals of this avenue, the Palau Nacional and the Magic fountain are illuminated, it becomes an unforgettable experience.
